Piercing Terms & Conditions

Effective from 1st January 2026.

These Terms & Conditions apply to piercing appointments booked with Alexandra Tattoo Company Limited, trading as Alexandra Tattoo Co.

They explain our booking, payment, deposit, cancellation, consent and service requirements. Please read them before completing your booking.

By booking an appointment and paying the required deposit, you confirm that you have read and accepted these Terms & Conditions.

1. Booking an Appointment

Please select the piercing or appointment type that most closely matches the service you would like.

If you are unsure of the piercing name or suitable placement, select the closest available option and include a brief explanation in the booking notes.

Each appointment allows time for the services selected during booking. Additional piercings may not be possible unless they have been included in the original booking.

Where time allows, additional services may be added during the appointment. Any additional cost will be discussed and agreed upon before proceeding.

A booking is not confirmed until the required deposit has been successfully paid and a booking confirmation has been issued.

2. Prices and Payment

The price shown during booking is based on the service selected.

Unless otherwise stated, piercing prices include suitable standard G23 titanium jewelry.

Decorative ends, rings, specialised pieces and upgraded jewelry may cost extra. Any additional cost will be explained before the piercing is performed.

The 30% deposit will be deducted from the final appointment cost. The remaining balance, including any agreed jewelry upgrades or additional services, must be paid at the appointment.

Prices may vary where the client selects a different service, additional piercings or upgraded jewelry. No additional service or cost will be added without the client’s agreement.

3. Deposits

All online piercing bookings require a 30% deposit at the time of booking.

The deposit secures the selected appointment time and will be deducted from the final appointment cost.

Deposits apply to the client and appointment for which they were originally paid and cannot be transferred to another person.

4. Cancellations and Rescheduling

Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.

When at least 24 hours’ notice is provided, the deposit may be:

  • Transferred to a rescheduled appointment; or

  • Refunded to the original payment method if the appointment is cancelled

If you cancel or reschedule with less than 24 hours’ notice, your deposit will be forfeited.

A new 30% deposit will be required before another online booking can be confirmed.

We understand that illness, emergencies and unexpected circumstances can happen. Please contact Alexandra Tattoo Co as soon as reasonably possible. Exceptions may be made at the studio’s discretion.

Please do not attend the studio if you have a contagious illness. Contact us before your appointment so the situation can be discussed.

5. Missed Appointments

If you do not attend your appointment and have not contacted the studio beforehand, the appointment will be treated as a no-show and your deposit will be forfeited.

A new 30% deposit will be required before another appointment can be booked.

Repeated missed appointments or late cancellations may result in full prepayment being required for future bookings.

6. Arriving Late

Please arrive approximately five minutes before your appointment so there is enough time to complete any required forms and discuss the piercing.

If you are running late, contact the studio as soon as possible.

Clients arriving more than 10 minutes late may need to have their appointment shortened or rescheduled if there is no longer enough time to safely complete the service.

Whether the appointment can continue will depend on:

  • The piercing being performed

  • The amount of appointment time remaining

  • The preparation required

  • The appointments scheduled afterward

If the appointment cannot go ahead because the client arrived too late, the booking may be treated as a missed appointment and the deposit may be forfeited.

7. Minimum Ages

All clients must meet the minimum age requirement for their chosen piercing.

Our current minimum ages, identification requirements and guardian requirements are explained on our Piercing Ages & Consent page.

Booking an appointment does not override these requirements.

If a client does not meet the stated minimum age, the piercing cannot go ahead.

8. Identification and Guardians

Clients under 16 must attend with a parent or legal guardian.

The parent or legal guardian must:

  • Attend the complete appointment

  • Provide valid photo identification

  • Sign the required consent form

  • Remain at the studio throughout the procedure

Permission provided by telephone, text message or written note is not accepted.

An older sibling, family friend or other accompanying adult cannot provide consent unless they are the client’s legal guardian.

We may request documentation confirming the client’s age or the adult’s legal guardianship, particularly where names or addresses differ.

Clients aged 16 or 17 must provide valid identification confirming their age.

If the required identification, guardian or consent is unavailable, the piercing cannot go ahead. Where these requirements were clearly provided before booking, the appointment may be treated as a late cancellation and the deposit may be forfeited.

9. Informed and Willing Consent

The person being pierced must give their own clear and willing consent, regardless of permission provided by a parent or legal guardian.

A parent or guardian cannot consent on behalf of a young person who does not want the piercing.

We will not pierce a client who:

  • Says no or asks us to stop

  • Appears frightened, distressed or uncertain

  • Cannot remain safely still

  • Does not understand the basic procedure or aftercare

  • Is being pressured, restrained or bribed into continuing

  • Is unable to provide informed and willing consent

Consent may be withdrawn at any time, including after the area has been cleaned or marked.

The appointment will stop if the client changes their mind. Deposit terms will be considered separately and will never be used to pressure a client into continuing.

Where appointment time or single-use materials have already been used, the deposit may be retained to reasonably cover that time and preparation.

For younger clients who do not appear ready, the studio may offer to transfer the deposit to one future appointment at its discretion.

10. Needle-Piercing Procedure

All piercings are performed using sterile, single-use piercing needles. Our piercing procedure uses a needle method rather than a piercing gun.

An appointment may include:

  • Discussing the requested piercing

  • Reviewing relevant consent and health information

  • Assessing the client’s anatomy

  • Selecting appropriate jewelry

  • Cleaning and preparing the area

  • Marking and approving the placement

  • Performing the piercing

  • Inserting the jewelry

  • Explaining aftercare

Clients must be able to remain reasonably still and willingly participate throughout the procedure.

11. Health and Appointment Readiness

Please arrive having eaten a proper meal and being well hydrated.

Do not attend your appointment while intoxicated or under the influence of recreational drugs.

Please contact the studio before attending if you:

  • Are feeling unwell

  • Have a contagious illness

  • Have irritation, injury or possible infection near the proposed piercing

  • Are uncertain whether a health condition or medication may affect the procedure

Before the procedure begins, please tell the piercer about any relevant:

  • Allergies or sensitivities

  • Health conditions

  • Medications

  • Previous reactions

  • Fainting history

  • Healing difficulties

  • Existing irritation or infection

Providing this information does not automatically mean that the piercing will be declined. It allows the piercer to consider whether additional precautions, postponement or medical advice may be appropriate.

Alexandra Tattoo Co does not provide medical diagnosis or treatment. Clients should seek advice from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional where medical concerns exist.

12. Anatomy and Placement

Piercings are anatomy dependent.

Booking an appointment and paying a deposit does not guarantee that the requested placement can safely or successfully be performed.

The piercer will assess the area before proceeding and may:

  • Adjust the proposed placement

  • Recommend different jewelry

  • Suggest an alternative piercing

  • Recommend postponing the procedure

  • Decline the piercing where it is unlikely to heal safely

The client will be consulted before any alternative service, placement or jewelry is selected.

If the requested piercing cannot be safely performed because of unsuitable anatomy, the client may choose an appropriate alternative service.

If no suitable alternative is available or accepted, the appointment deposit will be refunded. A client will not lose their deposit solely because their anatomy is unsuitable.

13. Jewelry

Only jewelry considered suitable for the placement, anatomy and initial healing process will be fitted into a new piercing.

Alexandra Tattoo Co may decline to use client-supplied jewelry where its material, quality, size, condition or suitability cannot be confirmed.

Jewelry options may be limited by:

  • The piercing placement

  • The client’s anatomy

  • The requirements of initial healing

  • Current stock availability

  • The appropriate length, gauge or style

The appearance of jewelry may vary slightly from website photographs due to lighting, screen settings and natural manufacturing variations.

14. Special-Order Jewelry

Special-order or customised jewelry may require full payment before it is ordered.

The standard appointment deposit does not necessarily cover the cost of special-order jewelry.

Once an item has been ordered specifically for a client, payment may not be refundable where the client simply changes their mind.

This does not affect the client’s rights where jewelry is faulty, incorrectly supplied, misdescribed or otherwise fails to meet applicable consumer guarantees.

Estimated arrival times are approximate where shipping, manufacturing or supplier delays are outside the studio’s control.

15. Healing and Aftercare

The piercing procedure is only the first step. Consistent aftercare is essential throughout the healing period.

Clients must be prepared to:

  • Follow the supplied aftercare instructions

  • Avoid unnecessary touching, pressure and irritation

  • Use only suitable aftercare products

  • Attend any recommended downsizing or follow-up appointments

  • Contact the studio if they have concerns about healing

For younger clients, the parent or guardian should be willing to supervise and assist with aftercare where necessary.

Healing times vary between clients and piercing placements. Healing may be affected by lifestyle, health, anatomy, jewelry, pressure, accidental trauma and how the piercing is cared for.

Alexandra Tattoo Co cannot guarantee a particular healing time or that every piercing will heal successfully.

This does not remove Alexandra Tattoo Co’s responsibility to provide services with reasonable care and skill.

16. Jewelry Downsizing and Follow-Up Care

Some piercings require the initial jewelry to be downsized after swelling has reduced.

Unless specifically stated otherwise, downsizing appointments and replacement jewelry are not included in the original piercing price.

The recommended timing will vary depending on the placement and healing progress.

Delaying a recommended downsize may contribute to irritation, movement, snagging or changes in the piercing angle.

Clients are responsible for arranging and attending recommended follow-up appointments.

17. Guests and Support People

Clients may bring one support person where space allows.

Younger clients must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian as required by our age and consent policy.

Please avoid bringing additional guests or unattended children. The piercing area needs to remain calm, clean and reasonably uncluttered.

Support people must not:

  • Pressure the client to continue

  • Restrain the client

  • Interfere with the procedure

  • Behave abusively or disruptively

A support person may be asked to leave the procedure area if their behaviour affects the client’s wellbeing or the safe completion of the service.

18. Right to Decline or Postpone a Service

Alexandra Tattoo Co reserves the right to postpone, alter or decline a piercing where proceeding would be unsafe, unsuitable or not in the client’s best interests.

This may include situations involving:

  • Unsuitable anatomy

  • Insufficient identification or consent

  • The client not meeting the minimum age

  • Illness or possible infection

  • Intoxication or drug use

  • Inability to remain safely still

  • Unsuitable jewelry or placement

  • Pressure being placed on a child or young person

  • Abusive, threatening, discriminatory or inappropriate behaviour

  • A reasonable concern about the client’s safety or ability to provide informed consent

The final decision to perform a piercing remains with the piercer.

Where a piercing is declined because the client has not met requirements that were clearly provided before booking, the deposit may be retained to cover the reserved appointment time.

Where the studio declines the service for reasons outside the client’s reasonable control, the deposit will be refunded or transferred to an agreed alternative service.

19. Studio Cancellations

Alexandra Tattoo Co may occasionally need to cancel or reschedule an appointment because of illness, an emergency, equipment issues, stock problems or another unexpected situation.

If Alexandra Tattoo Co cancels an appointment, the client may choose to:

  • Transfer the deposit to a replacement appointment; or

  • Receive a refund of the deposit

Alexandra Tattoo Co is not responsible for unrelated travel, accommodation, lost income or other personal expenses associated with attending an appointment, except where responsibility cannot lawfully be excluded.

20. Completed Services and Change of Mind

Once a piercing has been completed, a refund will not normally be provided simply because the client changes their mind about the piercing or jewelry they selected and approved.

Before the piercing is performed, the client will have the opportunity to review and approve the marked placement and selected jewelry.

This change-of-mind provision does not apply where the service or jewelry fails to meet the guarantees required by New Zealand consumer law.

21. Personal Information

Alexandra Tattoo Co may collect personal information that is reasonably necessary to:

  • Arrange and manage appointments

  • Confirm identity, age and consent

  • Safely provide the requested service

  • Maintain consent and service records

  • Process payments

  • Provide relevant aftercare or follow-up information

  • Meet legal and regulatory obligations

  • Contact the client about their appointment or piercing

Clients should provide accurate and complete information where it is relevant to the safe provision of the service.

Personal information will be handled in accordance with applicable New Zealand privacy law.

Information may also be processed through third-party booking, communication and payment providers used to operate the business.

22. Consumer Rights

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions limits or removes any rights or remedies available under the:

  • Consumer Guarantees Act 1993

  • Fair Trading Act 1986

  • Privacy Act 2020

  • Other applicable New Zealand law

Alexandra Tattoo Co will provide piercing services with reasonable care and skill.

If you believe there is a problem with a service or item supplied by Alexandra Tattoo Co, please contact the studio promptly so the concern can be assessed and an appropriate resolution considered.

23. Changes to These Terms

Alexandra Tattoo Co may update these Terms & Conditions when business practices, services or legal requirements change.

The version in effect when an appointment is booked will apply to that booking unless the client and Alexandra Tattoo Co agree otherwise.

24. Acceptance

By completing an online booking and paying the required deposit, the client, or the client’s parent or legal guardian where applicable, confirms that they:

  • Have read these Terms & Conditions

  • Understand the deposit and cancellation requirements

  • Have provided accurate booking information

  • Meet the relevant age and consent requirements

  • Agree to comply with the appointment and aftercare requirements

These Terms & Conditions should be read alongside our Piercing Ages & Consent and Piercing Aftercare information.
